Micaela + Gilbert

May 20, 2023 – Edmonton, AB

Our Story

This one is about people who no one could have ever imagined being together. We couldn’t have been more different when we first met and probably didn’t strike anyone as a likely match but as the saying goes – opposites attract.

They Match’ed

They met in the most modern and conventional way – they matched.ca. After a few undeniably smooth messages sent by Gil, they met up for a cup of tea and coffee. On the fourth year of that first message, they got engaged.💍.

Here We Are Today

Together, they opened each other’s worlds and helped each other grow.

Gil is now familiar with words such as brunch and movie house, accepts rice for breakfast, is always there for off-hour airport pickups and consulate visits, knows facts about random places in the world, and fun stories within the operating room – and also understands the importance of planning, timelines, and proper cooking utensils.

For Micaela, she is now around someone with a wild sense of humour and sick dance moves, and a true belief that you can live life on your own terms with a bit of hard work and focus. She has found that special someone that embraces her born and learned beliefs, and just as important, someone who can hold her hand.

Gil(bert)

If you know Gil, you know that he’s always cracking jokes and witty puns, and loves nothing more than making other people laugh and have a good time. His family and friends are priorities in his life and he would do anything for them. He is truly grateful for the morals and values instilled upon him by his mom and dad. Always up for a challenge, you can find him trying to master a new sport, learning to play a musical instrument, or grinding out work for clients. Much of his free time is spent hanging out with his siblings and is oftentimes coming up with fun and comical games to keep his niece and nephews entertained.

RANDOM FACTS ABOUT THE GROOM

  • He believes that “90% of the world’s problems would be solved if people would just calm the hell down”.
  • He is adamant that he is going to be a contestant on the National Geographic show, “Naked & Afraid”.
  • He (at the time of writing) has done 78 straight days of 40+ minutes of Les Mills workouts on VR.
  • His first-ever email was tazmanianballz@hotmail.com.
  • He can probably become a licensed wedding planner after helping plan this wedding.
  • He absolutely loves Micaela….also, disc golf, kale, and old-school rap.

Mica(ela)

Born and raised in Manila, Micaela’s favorite memory as a child is having breakfast and dinner with her family almost every day and the surprise Christmas trips that her parents planned for the family. At the age of 23, right after finishing nursing school, she pursued and then completed her masters at the University of Alberta. Always up for an adventure, Micaela loves to travel with her family (Iceland, Norway, and Russia -being some of favorites) but nothing will beat her love for the beautiful beaches and savory dishes of the Philippines – grilled seafood and mangoes anyone?
.

RANDOM FACTS ABOUT THE BRIDE

  • She will sit down and listen to your life story – and probably ask for some advice.
  • She plays in an Edmonton Touch Football League.
  • She is always asking for cooking lessons.
  • She loves little penguins and wants a pet turtle.
  • She finished her third half marathon with zero training. It wasn’t pretty though…
  • She likes waking up at 5:30 AM in the morning.
  • She loves swimming and underwater diving.

Gil proposed to Micaela at the location of their first date. When they first met, it was a Good Earth Cafe but when he proposed, it was being renovated into a cannabis shop.

When should I RSVP by?

The earlier, the better! But we ask that you RSVP by Monday, May 16, 2023, at the latest. This will give us enough time to finalize the details for our celebration and make sure we have everything we need to make our day special. Thank you in advance for taking the time to RSVP!

What should I wear?

Dress to impress, baby! Our dress code is formal, so for women, think cocktail dresses, for men, think sharp suits, or a barong if you have. But don’t worry – there’s no need to break the bank. We just ask you to avoid anything too casual, like jeans or sneakers.

What time do the ceremony and rececption start?

CEREMONY
The ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00 AM at The Catholic Church of Corpus Christi. We kindly ask that you arrive by 10:45 AM to ensure a timely start to the celebration.

RECEPTION
Cocktail Hour begins at 4:30 PM. We kindly ask that you arrive by 5:00 PM to settle in before the Bride and Groom’s entrance at 5:30 PM.

Will there be assigned seating?

For the ceremony, the first 2 rows are reserved for the wedding entourage but aside from that, you are free to sit where you’d like!

For the reception, there will be a seating chart with your name and table.

Do you have a gift registry?

The most important thing is having you there to celebrate our special day! But if you’d like to give a gift we’d be grateful with a contribution to our honeymoon fund.

What can I do to make your wedding as memorable as possible?

We’re so glad you asked! The most important thing you can do is simply show up, have a good time, and take lots of photos. If you do post your photos, we ask you to use the hashtag #MicaelaAndGil

Can I bring a plus-one?

If your invitation specifically mentions a plus-one, we’d be happy for you to bring a guest. However, if your invitation does not mention a plus-one, we kindly ask that you come solo. We want to make sure we can accommodate all of our guests while maintaining a comfortable and intimate atmosphere.

Can I bring my kids?

That depends, are your kids good at cleaning tables and washing dishes? Jokes aside, we ask you only bring children if they have been included on the invitation.

What food will you be serving at the wedding?

Bring your appetite! We’ll be having a delicious buffet-style dinner featuring Carved Baron of Beef served with au jus, fresh organic Chinook salmon with lemon and herb cream sauce, and a variety of sides and salads to complement the main dishes. We also have options available to accommodate dietary restrictions. Just let us know when you RSVP.

Will alcohol be served?

Hell yeah! There will be bottles of wine at each table with a toonie bar available for other liquor and beer. Get crunk!

Is there parking at the ceremony and reception?

Yes! There is plenty of parking available at both the ceremony and reception locations.

Can I leave my car at the reception venue overnight?

Yes! If you plan on enjoying a few drinks during the reception, we encourage you to take a taxi or Uber home. The gates at the Edmonton Country Club will open the following morning at 6 AM for you to pick up your vehicle anytime.

Did you know…

Gil once agreed to go to a yoga class with Micaela. After much bending, stretching, and hummingbird sounds, he has not done yoga since.

Our Story

This one is about people who no one could have ever imagine being together. We couldn’t have been more different when we first met and probably didn’t strike anyone as a likely match. We tested and strained our relationship, bringing it to great heights with deep faults right ahead but eventually managed to be here today as a team <3.

We Match(ed).com

We met in the most modern conventional way – we matched.ca, met for coffee at Ellerslie Road, got to know to each other and on the fourth year of that first message sent through email (at the place (or coffee shop) where we first met), we got engaged 💍.

Here We Are Today

As we allowed each other into our world, it opened more and became extra-colorful when we met each other. (OR When we met each other, our world opened more and became extra-colorful). Gil was now around words like movie house and grocery store, rice for breakfast, off-hour trips to the airports and consulate, facts about random places in the world, fun stories within the operating room – and most of all, the need to plan, shift work, and timelines. For Micaela, she was now around flexibility, laughter, creative projects, functional design, gifts that she would never get for herself but were always game changer, someone who lived by setting their own rules, found a space to merge her born and learned beliefs, fun games, drinks, a constant support, and someone who can hold her hand ∞.

On most days you would have seen us at Costco, late night trips to Superstore, working for the future in the shared office, sitting to Mariana van Zeller or F1, having drinks and spending time with our fun-loving and passionate families, and/or sometimes someone getting dragged to a coffee shop (or a planned short walk that ends up being a 5-kilometer stroll) ❀.

Micae(la)

Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, at the age of 23, Micaela took the opportunity to compete her graduate studies in Canada. She fostered her adult life in Edmonton and at the same time balancing her non-negotiable commitment to her family by flying back home every year or meeting them in certain parts of the world during the Christmas holidays. An always moving mind, Micaela loves to travel (Norway, Russia, and Iceland as her favorites) but nothing will beat her love for the beautiful beaches and savory food of the Philippines – mangoes anyone? She loves to take endless photos, watch cooking videos, write, but mostly listen to people’s stories.
